Shipwrecked, the girl who thinks and more racsim

For some people, it’s not enough that they place their foot in the mouth. They must also grab any passing feet and insert those in the gaping mouth as well. Britain and Channel4, still recovering from “Is she stupid, or is she racist?” issue, is now grappling with another young ‘un insisting on making statements that would probably feature only in a satire show. The comments come from a certain kid who is on another reality show called Shipwrecked.

In scenes screened just hours before C4 boss Luke Johnson apologised for the Jade Goody Celebrity BB race row, she ranted: “Britain is a complete mess. “I just don’t appreciate people coming into our country and taking over our culture. “We’ve got way too many cultures. Britain’s not really Britain any more. “I’m for the British Empire and things. I’m for slavery, but that’s never going to come back.”

Asked why she did not like black people, she said: “From what I’ve seen they’re really bad.”
When another contestant said she did not like racists, Lucy replied: “I’m afraid you have one here.” The gap year teenager, who spent 10 years in all-girls’ boarding schools, then told her companions she hated fat people. She said: “They’re offensive. They can help it – eat less, exercise more, get their stomachs stitched.” On the Shipwrecked website she adds: “I can’t stand fat and ugly people. They bring you down.”

Over at the website, we take great pleasure in knowing that the kid, all of 18 years at least knows her fundamental weakness.

What’s your worst habit?

My worst habit is certainly the fact that I don’t think before I speak. Also I judge too quickly and I generalise things a lot. For example I hated fat people.

However, the kid believes she thinks. With what? Am just holding my breath to see how this plays out in the papers now. Or maybe the racism quota has been filled for the month. I think I’ll just die laughing.

    Apparently she “changes” at the end of the programme. The racism quota-in real life is it ever filled? Perhaps for the media. Suddenly comes out of the blue to shock you.

    I cannot believe that girl actually said that but then again maybe I am the ignorant one thinking people don’t change. Britain was built on the blood of blacks and asians; I am sure she hasn’t been taught that. Her aristocratic privilege will protect her no doubt but from who? Not from me anyway.

    A recent, perhaps trivial, example of this kind of intellectual ethnic warfare is the popular movie Addams Family Values (released in November 1993), produced by Scott Rudin, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, and written by Paul Rudnick. The bad guys in the movie are virtually anyone with blond hair (the exception being an overweight child), and the good guys include two Jewish children wearing yarmulkes. (Indeed, having blond hair is viewed as a pathology, so that when the dark-haired Addams baby temporarily becomes blond, there is a family crisis.) The featured Jewish child has dark hair, ears glasses, and is physically frail and nonathletic. He often makes precociously intelligent comments, and he is severely punished by the blond-haired counselors for reading a highly intellectual book. The evil gentile children are the opposite: blond, athletic, and unintellectual. Together with other assorted dark-haired children from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and white gentile children rejected by their peers (for being overweight, etc.), the Jewish boy and the Addams family children lead a very violent movement that succeeds in destroying the blond enemy. The movie is a parable illustrating the general thrust of Jewish intellectual and political activity relating to immigration and multiculturalism in Western societies. It is also consistent with the general thrust of Hollywood movies. SAID (McDonald 1998) reviews data indicating Jewish domination of the entertainment industry in the United States. Powers, Rothman and Rothman (1996, 207) characterize television as promoting liberal, cosmopolitan values, and Lichter, Lichter and Rothman (1994, 251) find that television portrays cultural pluralism in positive terms and as easily achieved apart from the activities of a few ignorant or bigoted miscreants.
