Poem: Why Mosquitoes Bite Her

She shows me the red bumps
angry on her skin. She has been
bitten. Mosquitoes chase her
everywhere. Her blood is sweet.

She scratches the bumps and
I try to make her feel better.
Kannamma, some send pigeons,
and others letters. But in my
desire to kiss you, I sent these
winged bastards instead.

In my passion, and their lust,
they did not know how to kiss.
So they bit you instead. On
your neck, arms and face. With
these red welts across your body,
imagine they are my kisses instead.

Did schools and colleges in Delhi also work under ‘kavaithai ezhuthi kaathal sollum’ mode? I thought that was such a Tamil thing to do. Though, I guess, you’d have bruised several tree egos.

    Beautiful.
I usually don’t get poems. But this one was different.
    Thanks a lot. 🙂
