Purity balls and crap

I come across so many of them that I am thinking of having a separate category for Wtf Links. So here it is – Wtf Link for this week. One more here.

The 100 father-daughter guests — some dads brought more than one daughter, and some of the daughters were as young as 4 — came from around Colorado, and a few from as far away as Pennsylvania. The highlight of the evening was when the dads signed the Covenant of Purity and Protection, witnessed by their daughters.

It’s not that I have an issue with a pledge made by an adult woman. But nobody else has the right to make that decision on behalf of another person. A parent can vow to protect their child from abuse or assault. How can a parent assume that a child will want to keep the parent’s world when she becomes an adult? Make no mistake. This whole thing isn’t about protecting children – it’s about protecting conventional morality. This entire thing is SO disturbing on so many levels. Mark Morford has an article on this.

These teens have a higher chance of indulging in oral sex. A la Bill Clinton.

Disturbingly, desis are dealing with the virginity issue by refurbishing it. Uggghh!

heheheh… I’m sorry, I keep seeing George Michael in my head singing ‘Father Figure’. Now I finally know what he wrote it for…

‘Sometimes I think that you’ll never understand me
But something tells me together, we’d be happy

I will be your father figure (Oh baby)
Put your tiny hand in mine (I’d love to)
I will be your preacher teacher (Be your daddy)
Anything you have in mind (It would make me)
I will be your father figure (Very happy)
I have had enough of crime (Please let me)
I will be the one who loves you
    till the end of time…’

Virginity is overrated because it’s increasingly scarce. But I consider the worst thing in the world to be two virgins on a wedding night, trying to fit Tab A into Slot B, based only on the pedantic discussion of elders whose faded memories of the Act allow them a vicarious moment.

And the rehymenation… well, that says more about society than the young women. There are many ways to lose a hymen other than sex. Why does virginity matter? Ownership. Everyone wants to be first, and perhaps there is some male inadequacy involved, where one is worried about ‘not being comparatively good’.

I like women because they usually don’t think like men. Rehymenating sort of tells me that women are being culturally forced to do this for men. I have yet to meet a woman who would like to lose her hymen twice.

If they are out there, I stand corrected…
